Best communication strategies for remote teams?

Olivia Schwartz

What are some communication strategies that every company with remote employees should implement and WHY?

Three communication strategies key for every company with remote employees include: active listening, affirming words of recognition, and storytelling. Each of these strategies build off one another to foster better communication with remote teams overall.

Active listening is essential not only in order to be on the same page with daily projects and tasks but to also be on the lookout for inspirational moments of collaboration, persistence, and teamwork. Once these moments occur, affirming words of recognition can then more easily be shared. It is critical that leaders are aware and mindful in hearing and seeing these moments each day so they can then recognize employees’ efforts and most importantly capture their thoughts and feelings in a story. In a world gone digital and detached, storytelling is at the core of who we are as human beings; stories connect us to one another in an intimate way that brings out the best in ourselves and one another.

As the first spotlight story generator for values driven teams, we have seen the impact stories have on organizations. In fact, one of our customers Evans Consulting is a great example of a company implementing an effective communication strategy utilizing stories each day.
